An Ageing Woman

A woman in her prime. What does that mean? A good career, secure finances, a family life and a man who respects the inner and outer veil of her character?

Is it the exterior that counts, or is it the openness that consists of the content strength of the soul, or the values, opinions and forward-looking attitudes of the mind?

What does it mean to be a woman in her prime in 2025, in a digital age where women have found their life's work in the almost pornographic phase of social media?

With self-edited videos, the latest in le maquiller, in which nose, cheek and chin are put to the test, you'd think they were operating on themselves in the operating theatre and showing the results afterwards.

They like to post pictures of their children's lives, big and small, and share all sorts of things about what they're eating, how their day has been and the latest in organic baby porridge.

Friendships abound. Champagne and small plates of friends showing big teeth in exaggerated poses as they gossip loudly about women they envy, narcissistic men and the latest plastic surgery, often followed by theatrical laughter.

They tend to have high expectations of themselves and their lives, mostly behind a screen, following the personality of someone else they can copy. An ageing woman, a nuisance?

Don't get me wrong, most women out there are living adult lives with responsibilities and all that that entails, but social media and today's society give the impression that women today desperately want to be so childlike and youthful that they are happy to engage in conversations in order to unfold all the youthful traits of themselves. Should we be enchanted by all this?

It is possible to be a vital and aging woman without losing your inner beauty. It's a tribute to age and the unwavering spirit. So you can age well. And if you want to share, why not choose moderation?
